Puttin' on the Ritz

It's dress up time!!! Over the years I have collected a substantial number of costumes. Although too numerous to keep out all the time, in October we celebrate Halloween by bringing out as many as I can fit into our storage box.

I love the skills involved in dress up play. Putting on costumes and taking them off again are great practice for dressing. Many costumes contain zippers, buttons, snaps, velcro or ties. Pretending to be someone or something else is great for building confidence. Kids in costume will try things that they might not otherwise attempt.

The experts tell us that dress up play promotes:

- self confidence
- socialization skills
- problem solving
- creativity
- personality exploration

But, of course, the best part is that dressing up is just plain fun, for grown ups as well as kids!
